Elect the Capt’n

James V. ‘Capt’n Jim’ McMahan is running for Town Commissioner in Bel Air, MD, in the November 5th election. Capt’n Jim believes that this campaign is about offering people the experience and dedication to keep Bel Air a true hometown while ensuring its economic stability. To him, politics is a calling, not a career and that is why he kept his promise to the voters and left his County Council seat after three successful terms.

To date, no other candidates’ credentials in the Town Commissioners race compares to Capt’n Jim’s record.

The Issues

Town Boundaries

He knows the current boundaries of the town cannot be expanded so he looks for innovative ways to support business.

Quality of Life

He is dedicated to preserving the small-town quality of life in Bel Air.

Police Department

The Police Department has been housed in inadequate facilities. He supports building a new facility for the Bel Air Police Department.

Fiscal Policy

His historical knowledge and experience can help him provide frugal fiscal policy.

Who is Capt’n Jim?

A patriot, a veteran, and a local businessman experienced in local government, dedicated to the citizens of Bel Air and Harford County. 

Many of you may know Capt’n Jim from his long broadcasting career with his late partner Bob Callahan. He has succeeded in many successful small business ventures and his service as a Councilman from District “C” on the County Council in unequaled. Capt’n Jim was born, raised, and educated in Bel Air. He is from a working-class family with deep roots in the community. His parents were both public servants, his father a police officer and his mother a schoolteacher. From them, Capt’n Jim learned the importance and value of public service.

 

Capt’n Jim is the son of the late Chief (Emeritus) J. Vaughan McMahan, and the late Selena P. McMahan, a well-known Bel Air High School Biology teacher. McMahan is known locally as “Capt’n Jim,” a nickname accrued to him proudly denoting his military and broadcasting background.
